We take great pride on our ingredient selection. From the design and development of our products, we consider ingredients that are good for your health, natural and clean, and good for the environment. So we always prioritize, natural, clean, safe and local, over cost and comfort. One of the main aspects of our business is to search for the best ingredients and suppliers, develop partnerships and long term relationships, and incorporate in our products the most positive ingredients for all.
In general, our ingredients are simple, and they come from two distinct origins. The fruit we use in our berry fruit spreads (strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, blueberry) come from the Northwestern US (Washington and Oregon), for products manufacturing in the US, and from the states of Michoacan and Jalisco for products manufactured in Mexico. Fruit growers are in proximity to the production facilities. By weight, our fruits are 50% or more of the content of the product, depending on the category (extra fruit and premium), being premium the category with the highest amount of fruit, having a total of 63.50% of fruit and chia alltogether. The second origin is for all other ingredients, which are the sweetener (cane sugar or agave nectar), chia seeds and lime juice. These ingredients come from Mexico. We have a last ingredient that we use to protect color in our strawberry spreads, and it is a fruit juice manufactured in The Netherlands. Below, please see the details of each of our ingredients:
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS ON ALL OUR INGREDIENTS
- Our ingredient supplier’s facilities must be certified with sufficient food safety certifications. At least ISO22000 or equivalent.
- All the ingredients we source should be Non Irradiated, Non GMO, free of chemicals, antibiotics, preservatives and additives, Gluten Free and Kosher
- We request MRL control (control of the maximum residue limit of pesticides, herbicides, metals and chemicals). The maximum limit we use is considerably below the US required MRLs. We follow Taiwan, Japan and Korea maximum MRLs as they are more strict on the maximum allowed pesticide levels, and we export to these countries, therefore the product we select is considerably lower in pesticides, herbicides, metals and chemicals compared to the limits allowed in the US.
Manufacturing plant
Our manufacturing plants are located in Oregon, USA and Michoacan, in Mexico. Our manufacturing plant in Mexico has an SQf Food Safety certification. Both facilities, have allergen control operating procedures in place, with HACCP and CCP controls in place.
Fruit
Oregon and Washington are the states where the fruit we use is grown for our production in Oregon. And Michoacan and Jalisco for our production in Mexico. These are areas with the perfect conditions for the berries to grow with the least amount of pesticides and fertilizer, and with a soil and climate that provides the plants with the right nutrients and compounds to develop amazing flavors and colors on its fruits. This is one of the main reasons why we selected a specific region to manufacture our spreads.
Sweeteners
We use cane sugar, and organic agave nectar. Both ingredients come from Mexico, from certified facilities. Pure cane sugar is a type of sugar that is more natural as it is not refined, or does not come from genetically modified crops, like beets, which require intensive refining and additives, and has become a commoditized ingredient. The cane sugar we use is vegan, as it does not use bone char. And is cleaner and better for you. It is more expensive than most sugars and more scarce, but it is well worth the extra cost and complication, for the health of our consumers.
Organic Agave Nectar
We use organic agave nectar in our premium fruit spreads. The main reason behind its use is the low glycemic value of the agave nectar, which allows us to produce our Premium Fruit Spread with a nice sweet flavor and a low sugar content. Agave Nectar has a low glycemic index and is diabetic friendly.
Chia seeds
Our most important ingredient, and the basis of our concept. We make our fruit spreads with chia seeds instead of pectin. Please browse through the three different sections we have prepared for our readers about the wonders, the reason behind using chia, and the promising future of chia seeds as an ingredient, and as a promoter of health:

Lime juice
We use lime juice with two purposes. First to keep our PH low, and improve the acidity of our products. Most jams use synthetic acids, but our manufacturing principles lead us to use only natural ingredients. Secondly, to improve the flavor of our products. Lime juice come from Mexico, from the states of Colima, Michoacan and Veracruz.
